Article Summary:
Article Content:
You can get a bike for any surface on the market today whether you want a road bike for the tarmac, a mountain bike for the hills or a casual bike for general riders. It does not matter which type of biking you prefer, all cycling will help to improve your stamina, increase fitness levels and work your heart.
If you want o ride along roads or other smooth flat surfaces then road bikes are great. The wheels are thinner than a mountain bike. The frame is also a lot thinner.
For middle age and older bikers, recumbent bikes have been a popular choice. On a recumbent bike you have a very comfortable seat that you can lean back in, quite like sitting in your favourite reclining chair. Your butt is very comfortably cushioned. Your feet are out in front of you, quite like when you’re driving your car. You can go quickly on a recumbent bike. One reason is that with your legs extended forward and pedalling in front of you, you are able to move much more weight with much less effort than on a conventional bike where your legs are underneath of you. It does take time for your ‘recumbent muscles’ to develop but once you have got the hang of it you will find it difficult to use a normal bike.
Although one of the toughest forms of cycling, mountain biking is enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. It can be expensive to buy a hi-tech mountain bike but it can be made cheaper by renting a bike from a store or group. Lighter duty mountain bikes are good for all types of biking. Not all mountain biking trails are killers and for experts only – they had to start somewhere too! They are rated on a colour basis with green being the easiest and pink the most difficult. To reduce the risk of injury you should learn how to handle the bike and go slowly so that the damage done to your joints is minimal.
You should definitely bike no matter which style you choose. It is one of the best types of exercise to do working muscles and getting your heart rate up. The best part is that anyone can ride a bike and it’s a great family recreation to be enjoyed together.
