If you are visiting Fuengirola or you live here, you won´t fail to be impressed with some of the new restaurants, tapas bars and pubs opening up near the town centre, and The Sushi Bar is one of the best.

Situated on the Avenida Jacinto Benavente, between the bus station and the beach, next to Mister Noodles, another good restaurant, The Sushi Bar serves a vast range of great sushi options, and also offer a superb  home delivery service, which is ideal for eating in during the hot, summer evenings.

We have eaten twice in the  bar, which is decorated in soothing whites, purples and mauves, giving a cool, clean appearance. The staff are friendly, and always offer to help if you are confused by the vast sushi choice on the menu. For sushi virgins, you can mix and match different dishes from the menu or ask for suggestions. The sushi comes with ginger, wasabi paste and soy sauce, which enhances the flavour of this traditional Japanese dish. The food is hand made, and the Sushi Bar also offers takeaway sushi boxes, along with salads and cold drinks.

Last time we ate at The Sushi Bar, we tried the Miso Soup, followed by The Menu Love, which comprised of Nigri Salmon, Nigri Tuna, Lubina, and Makri Avocado and Cucumber, which was absolutely delicious. If you are slightly squeamish about eating raw fish, plump for the vegetarian options, including avocado and cheese, egg and the vegetable California.

We ordered a menu trio to be delivered to our apartment last Saturday for lunch, between four of us. The cost was €49.90, which worked out at just €12.50 per head, and the selection of sushi was incredible. Including Nigri salmon, tuna and lubina, and Makri crab, avocado, cheese and salmon, everyone thought it was absolutely delicious, and well worth the money. We also ordered seaweed salad, which accompanied the sushi beautifully.

If you want something different, try the eggplant salad, the tuna tartar or the cooked soya beans with salt. Smaller menus are available, or you can choose from individual offerings. The largest menu is the Menu Friends, which would be enough for up to 10 diners, and costs €89.40.

Sushi is an acquired taste, and most people either love  it or hate it. If you have never tried sushi, you can order just a few taster pieces, and the beauty of the Sushi Bar menu is its flexibility. Personally, I love the salmon sushi, but you are even well catered for if you have a sweet tooth. Desserts include lychee salad, fruit salad, Nutella Maki and Nutella and Banana Maki.

A small but adequate wine list accompanies the main menu, and you can even try some sake if you are brave enough, plus a range of beers and soft drinks.

Whether you love sushi, or you simply want to try it, The Sushi Bar is a friendly, stylish and comfortable place to come. Enjoy some of the finest Japanese cuisine in the heart of Fuengirola. For more information or for home delivery, call: 951 261516.
