Wall-E: This is an animation sci-fi comedy adventure. Wall-E is a robot left on Earth for 100’s of years, since the planet became uninhabitable. He just goes on cleaning the planet, as he was designed to do. When a search robot named Eve arrives, his whole reason for existing changes.

Spungen: Director Cox accomplishes a masterful level of a documentary-reality. He then laces it with metaphorical fantasy icons, with striking outcomes. At the center of the film are two incredible performances by Goldman and Webb, who don’t appear to be acting at all: They are Sid and Nancy. The movie is a downer, to be certain, however captivating. (105 minutes, 1969)

Basic Instinct: Detective Nick Curren is investigating a murder. Sexy and famous author Catherine Tramell is becoming a prime suspect. She lures him into a torrid love affair. Now he struggles to resolve her guilt or innocence in the case.

Straight Time: Hoffman knocks heads with greasy parole officer Walsh following his discharge from penitentiary and starts a downward skid. An immersing if not specifically differentiated melodrama that gets a genuine shot in the arm from tremendous acting by the supporting cast. Cast includes Dustin Hoffman, Theresa Russell, Harry Dean Stanton, Gary Busey, Emmet Walsh, and Rita Taggart. (114 minutes, 1978)

Outbreak: deadly virus has hit Cedar Creek, California. Highly transferable, in a short time the virus is spreading fast. The other problem, once infected you have less than 24 hours to live. The virus must be contained, so people are sequestered if they are near the outbreak areas.

The X-Files: FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully hit the big screen in the first X-Files movie. Investigating the bombing of an office building in Dallas, the two agents are drawn into an even greater mystery. It eventually leads them to an alien plan to colonize the planet, and the U.S. government is somehow involved.

Deep Impact: With a comet on a collision course for Earth. A decision is made to send a space ship out to intercept the comet, and ’seed’ it with nuclear bombs. The explosion splits the comet in two, with the smaller part still heading toward Earth. With a devastating impact looming, it is learned that 1 million Americans will be chosen by lottery to go underground into a network of caves built to survive the impact, and the following sequence of disasters.

Bela Logosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla: Mitchell and Petrillo (Martin and Lewis hopefuls) are stranded on a small island, where Lugosi is carrying out odd trials and experiments. Cast includes Bela Lugosi, Duke Mitchell, Sammy Petrillo, Charlita, Muriel Landers, and Ramona the Chimp. (74 minutes, 1952)

M: Fascinating, brilliant re-make of the Fritz Lang classic set in L.A., with Wayne as young killer being chased down by a group of mobsters. Cast includes David Wayne, Howard De Silva, Luther Adler, Karen Morley, Joy Cartright, Martin Gabel, and Norman Lloyd. (88 minutes, 1951)
